A portion of Comstock Lake Road will be closed approximately 12 miles east of Cotton as crews replace an old bridge with a new concrete box culvert. The project is expected to be complete by the end of September.

St. Louis County Public Works has installed blue lights at 14 intersections in Duluth and Hermantown to help stop drivers who run red lights. Statistics show that most serious and fatal accidents in the Duluth area are caused by motorists running a red light.

Residents are reminded to always check references before hiring any contractors. An individual claiming to be working on a county road project reportedly has been going door-to-door in Biwabik trying to drum up driveway paving projects. The company he claims to work for is not a contractor for any St. Louis County projects.

Public Works is replacing the nearly 90-year-old bridge that crosses the Burntside River. The project is expected to last until late October, though the contractor has been offered financial incentives if work can be completed earlier.

Public Works will have a new tool to help them respond more quickly and effectively during winter storms. Roadway Weather Information Systems have been installed at five locations, which can detect the presence of snow/ice and send automatic alerts to road crews when dangerous conditions are present.
