Important information related to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The Auditor’s Office is open in the Duluth Courthouse for people needing service voting/election administration services only.  The Government Service Center in Virginia is closed to the public.
For property tax payments or other transactions involving the Auditor’s Office, secure drop boxes are available for people to leave paperwork and payments.   The locations of these drop boxes can be found here (
The Auditor’s Office at the Miller Hill Mall is open to the public. People are encouraged to continue using the secure drop box outside the Service Center for transactions when at all possible Details here. Learn more here:

The duties and services of each division of the St. Louis County Auditor-Treasurer are as follows:

Tax Division - Property and other taxes, Deed & mortgage taxes

Clerk of the Board/Elections - Official Board records, Administers Elections, Liquor licenses, Tobacco licenses

Accounting - Performs county-wide financial accounting administration

Service Center - Vehicle/DNR registrations and titles, Driver's license renewals, Passport applications and photographs, Naturalization photographs, Property tax payments, Plat book sales

Virginia Auditor's office - Assists Tax Division with Land Records, Property tax payments, Assists with deed and mortgage taxes

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related temporary closure of county offices, County Board Chair Michael Jugovich and County Auditor Nancy Nilsen have authorized the County Attorney’s Office to accept service of process on the county by email in new civil cases in state and federal court. Please direct any such process to Your email will be acknowledged by a County Attorney’s Office staff member.

Service of process on the county by email is only authorized as long as county offices are closed and this notice is present on the county’s website. Thereafter, process must be served in accordance with the requirements in Minn. R. Civ. P. 4.03(e)(1) or Fed. R. Civ. P. 4(j)(2), as appropriate.

Nancy Nilsen

Nancy Nilsen was sworn in on January 3, 2019 as the St. Louis County Auditor-Treasurer.  Starting January 2019, she will begin her four year term as the first elected woman Auditor-Treasurer for St. Louis County.
