Road Restrictions

Protecting the Roads to Increase Their Life & Ensure Safe Driving

St. Louis County reserves the right to seasonally restrict the operation of vehicles on County Roads (CR), County State Aid Highways (CSAH) and Unorganized Township (UT) roads per Minnesota Statue 169.87: Seasonal Load Restriction; Route Designation. Questions concerning any county maintained road should be directed to one of the Maintenance Superintendents listed on the Maintenance District map or by clicking on the relevant Maintenance District link to the right.

St. Louis County follows seasonal load restrictions as directed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT). Mn/DOT's toll-free number for road restriction information is 1-800-723-6543. You can also access up-to-date information regarding road restrictions in Minnesota by clicking here for MnDOT Seasonal Load Limits.

Blanket spring load restrictions have ENDED on St. Louis County highways located in both the North and North-Central Frost Zones.

NOTE: Individual roads may remain posted based on their condition until they recover and are able to carry full legal loads. These individual decisions are made by the maintenance superintendents.
