Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) is a volunteer
group of Amateur Radio Operators, also known as HAM’s, that dedicate their time
to assist with emergency back-up communications. Members are licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, and are
experienced and trained in communications along with equipment usage and deployment.
Radio was formally included as part of the emergency communication community by
the Department of Homeland Security in October 2006. St. Louis County RACES operates out of both Duluth and Virginia, and they are
currently accepting applications for new members.
