A Chicago man with three prior controlled substance convictions, has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison after being found guilty of possession and sale of heroin on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation.  

The Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force - North Investigators released their latest summary of activity. Over the last several months, 24 people have been charged with various narcotics offenses as a result of Task Force investigations.

Seven new deputies and 10 corrections officers were sworn in by the Sheriff on Friday during a special recognition ceremony that also highlighted other recent hires, promotions and awards for outstanding work.

Unused medications can be safely and anonymously discarded through the Take it to the Box Program. There are 12 drop off locations around St. Louis County. Proper disposal prevents thefts, environmental damages and accidental poisonings.

County Highway 101, which runs through Eveleth, Leonidas and Mt. Iron, now is also known as Representative Joe Begich Highway in honor of the former Mayor and State Representative.
