The fire was contained to the kitchen area. Unfortunately, at least two family pets died in the fire. No one was home at the time.

The seasonal load limits have been in place in the North Zone, which covers the majority of St. Louis County, since March 22. Restrictions in the North Central Zone have already been lifted. 

The closure affects seven miles of the road from Swan Lake Road to Hwy 133. It's part of a resurfacing project expected to last until August. The duration of the project will be completed with lane closures to allow for through traffic.

A Blue Mass will be held May 17, followed by the 28th annual Law Enforcement Memorial Luncheon on May 18, as a way to remember and honor officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Richard H. Hansen led the Public Works Department for 17 years, retiring in 2002. The department's main building in Pike Lake is named in his honor. Hansen died Monday at the age of 79.
