Groundbreaking is set for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for the new "GSC North" building in Virginia. The $19 million project will create a centralized hub for people in the Quad Cities to access the services of 10 County departments.

The final phase of the multi-year project to rebuild approximately two miles of 4th Street and replace the utilities beneath in Duluth will resume on May 7. Beginning Monday, 4th Street will be closed between 22nd Avenue East and Wallace Avenue. Crews will be paving the road; constructing curbs, gutters and sidewalks; installing street lighting; and landscaping.

On May 3, 2018, at 3:33 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and Fond du Lac Police Department along with EMS were dispatched to a medical from an assault at a residence in Culver Township.  A 33-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.  A 31-year-old male that was involved left the scene in a vehicle prior to law enforcement arrival but was located and arrested.

On May 3, 2018, at approx. 6:47 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Bois Forte Police Department), Greenwood Township Fire & 1st Responders, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and the Tower Ambulance Service, responded to the area of Big Bay near the Everett Narrows on Lake Vermilion in Greenwood Township for a water emergency. 

Just about any working parent in this region can tell you - there is a severe shortage of licensed day care providers in St. Louis County. The situation is about to become worse with the recently announced closing of a large daycare center in Duluth. Parents of infants and toddlers face the biggest challenge to find affordable daycare.
