A driver passing in a no passing zone led to a two vehicle accident on Rice Lake Road. Four people had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

St. Louis County ends logging restrictions as conditions improve

Due to favorable weather conditions, St. Louis County is lifting the restrictions announced earlier this week regarding cutting and logging operations on county-managed lands in the northern part of the county. The St. Louis County Land & Minerals Department has been consulting with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the United States Forest Service (USFS) in making this decision.

St. Louis County announces logging restrictions due to wildfire risk

Due to continuing drought restrictions and resulting wildfire risk, St. Louis County is restricting cutting and logging operations on all county-managed lands in the northern part of the county. The restrictions are consistent with those announced by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the United States Forest Service (USFS), and apply to the same area where no open burning and no campfires are allowed.

Public invited to learn about Community Development Block Grant funds and opportunity to apply

The St. Louis County Planning and Community Development Department is hosting a virtual open house and public hearing on Thursday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. The session will highlight accomplishments and how funds were distributed in fiscal year 2020, including from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs. Lost Hiker

Lost Hiker

On 8/25/2021 at approximately 2:22 PM,  the St Louis Co Sheriff's Office received a report of a lost hiker near Little Johnson Lake in the Kabetogama State Forest. Justin Wirth reported he was lost near Little Johnson Lake after attempting to hike from the Crane Lake Visitors Center to the Ash Lake Visitor's Center. The St. Louis Co Rescue Squad was utilized to locate/rescue Wirth and after an exhaustive effort, learned Wirth had made it out of the woods and was safe.
