"On February 25-26,2021 , Duluth police officers and St. Louis County deputies were placed in a situation which necessitated the use of deadly force in the course of their work," said St. Louis County Attomey Mark Rubin. "Their actions taken in self-defense of themselves and each other, eventually resulted in the death ol David Joseph Wayne Conwell. A later examination by the Midwest Medical Examine/s Office on behalf of St. Louis County confirmed that he died of multiple gunshot wounds," added Rubin

County Board to invest $5 million through schools to help kids get back on track

The St Louis County Board has given unanimous approval to distribute $5.18 million to area school districts to help re-engage students and get them back on track for academic success following disruptions caused by the pandemic. The funding comes from the $54 million federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds awarded to the county.

Masks again recommended for all indoor, public places due to substantial transmission rates in St. Louis County

St. Louis County is experiencing substantial transmission of COVID-19, which means everyone is recommended to again wear face masks in indoor, public places, regardless of vaccination status. Substantial transmission is defined by the CDC as 50 or more cases in a week per 100,000 residents. As of today, the case rate in St. Louis County has risen to 54.4 cases per 100,000 residents.

St. Louis County Sheriff's Squad Car Stolen-Suspect Apprehended

On August 2nd, 2021 at approximately 10:20 PM a St. Louis County Sheriff’s patrol squad parked outside the County Courthouse complex in Virginia was stolen.  The squad, which was thought to be locked, was left parked with the engine running by a Deputy who then momentarily entered the Sheriff’s Office.  A short time later, it was discovered the squad car had been stolen.  The Sheriff’s Office was able to locate the stolen squad using GPS technology and track it while it was being driven through the City of Virginia.

Lost person

Lost person

On August 1, 2021, at approximately 05:22 AM, The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and St. Louis County Rescue Squad responded to a report of a lost person, somewhere near the Marshall Truck Trail and the Hulligan Lake Forest Rd. The lost party, David Shepard, was attempting to follow cell phone map directions, when his vehicle became stuck on the remote Forest Rd. He then set out on foot and became lost in a wooded and swampy area. His cell phone still had reception and he was able to call 911 for help. The St. Louis County Rescue Squad and St. Louis County drone team deployed assets in the area and were able to successfully locate Shepard. He was cold and wet, but otherwise uninjured.
