New opioid prevention strategies launched by St. Louis County

The St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services Department will be rolling out new opioid prevention efforts in the coming months. St. Louis County, with the support of Healthy Northland, was recently selected to be one of two counties piloting opioid prevention strategies through the Minnesota Department of Health’s Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

On June 5, 2018, at approx. 11:40 P.M, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a report of a individual that was struck by a Canadian National Train. Sheriff's Deputies along with CN Conductors located the 34 year old male who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hermantown roundabout construction begins June 11, detours in place for Maple Grove Road

Construction is set to begin Monday, June 11, to build a roundabout at the intersection of Midway Road and Maple Grove Road in Hermantown. During the first month of the project, Midway Road will remain open to traffic. Maple Grove Road, however, will be closed on both sides of the intersection. Detours will be posted directing motorists to use Lavaque Road and Morris Thomas Road.

Highway 5 bridge over Bear River to close for three weeks for final project phase

The final phase of construction has resumed on the new bridge on County State Aid Highway 5 over the Bear River. The new bridge was installed and opened late last fall, but finishing touches - including final paving, striping and shoulder work - needed to wait until spring.
