A Duluth woman who is already working as a 911 dispatcher while going  to college in hopes of becoming a Deputy Sheriff, is one of the winners of the  Minnesota Sheriff's Association annual scholarship contest.

The survey will be conducted January 25, counting the number of people who were homeless on the night of January 24. It's important because money and resources awarded to communities to fight homelessness are based on documented counts of homeless persons and families.

Two open houses are planned - in Virginia and Duluth - to provide information and answer questions for people who are considering serving as foster parents.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when deputies and fire fighters arrived. Two dogs are believed to have died in the fire. No one else had been home at the time, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation
