Spring load restrictions announced for St. Louis County roads in North and North Central Zones

Spring load restrictions have been announced for the North-Central and North frost zones of  Minnesota. Restrictions will go into effect on Monday, March 8, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. These two zones include all county highways in St. Louis County.

Virtual Meeting: Morris Thomas Road Project

St. Louis County Public Works and the City of Duluth are working together on a project to reconstruct Morris Thomas Road (County State Aid Highway 56) between Haines Road and Piedmont Avenue. The work is needed due to aging underground utilities and deteriorating pavement, curbs and gutters.

The public is invited to learn more about what is being planned through a virtual meeting on Thursday, February 25, at 6 p.m. Information on how to join the meeting, along with additional details about the project, can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/morris-thomas. The web page also includes a "comment map", which allows citizens to post ideas or feedback about the project.

St. Louis County Public Works Department is responsible for 3,000 miles of roads and right-of-ways, and each of these roads has a system to collect and discharge stormwater away from the road, This includes ditches or, for roads that have curbs, a system of buried storm sewer pipes and treatment technologies.

Improvements coming to Industrial Township intersection; virtual meeting set for Oct. 29

St. Louis County Public Works and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are working on plans to reconfigure the intersection of Highway 33 and Industrial Road (County State Aid Highway 7) into a Reduced Conflict Intersection - also known as a J-turn. This intersection in Industrial Township has been the site of five traffic crashes in the last decade, including two resulted in injuries. The project is expected to take place in 2022, but with the design phase just beginning, the public is invited to learn more about it through a virtual meeting on Thursday, October 29, at 6 p.m. Information on how to join the meeting, along with additional details about the project, can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/industrialroad

Virtual meeting to discuss planned improvements at Mt Iron intersection

A rural intersection in Mt. Iron that has been the site of 10 traffic crashes in the last decade, including one in which two people died, will be reconfigured in 2022 to make it safer. St. Louis County Public Works and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are working on plans to turn the intersection of Highway 169 and Spirit Lake Road (County State Aid Highway 137) into a Reduced Conflict Intersection - also known as a J-turn.
