The St. Louis County Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a "bridge bundling" contract totaling $23.9 million to replace a total of 21 bridges and box culverts over the next two years. Road construction is expected to begin Tuesday on Morris Thomas Road. The project includes realigning the intersection with Trunk Highway 2, replacing the Keene Creek bridge, replacing multiple culverts, road resurfacing, and adding a left turn lane on Highway 2 for vehicles turning onto Morris Thomas Road

Kleffman Road in Hibbing has reopened to traffic following repairs to a culvert. A portion of the road, which is also known as County Road 710, had to be closed earlier this month after it was determined that the joint connecting two box culverts has separated.

 

St. Louis County Public Works staff will continue to monitor the culvert to determine if more extensive repairs will be needed, but no further closures are anticipated this summer.

A portion of Kleffman Road in Hibbing has been temporarily closed due to a culvert failure. St. Louis County Public Works staff have determined that the joint connecting two box culverts has separated. Engineers are now evaluating the cause and how best to correct it. The road will likely be closed 6-8 weeks for repairs.

Spring load restrictions will be removed on county roads beginning Monday, May 3, at 12:01 a.m. Some limited county roads - most of them gravel - will continue to be posted with weight restrictions due to their individual condition.
