On July 17th, 2023 at approximately 8:20 P.M. Saint Louis County Sheriff's deputies along with the Cook Fire department responded to a Canadian National Train derailment that occurred in Field township approximately 6 miles north of Cook, Mn.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and White Township are coming together to host a National Night Out party, and this year will include a free health fair as part of the event. Activities will be held at the Loon Lake Community Center, 3816 Highway 100 in Aurora, MN 55705 (Loon Lake Community Center) on Tuesday August 1, from 4:30-8 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly event.

UPDATED: Missing Person from Meadowlands area - Located

St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a 51 year old male,  Kenneth Scott Peterson DOB 5/23/1972, who was reported to be missing from his residence in Meadowlands on Friday July 7th. .  He was last seen leaving his home walking southbound on Hwy 7 on Thursday July 6th around noon.  He is described as being 5'11, average build, sandy brown hair and scruffy facial hair.  Peterson was last wearing a black sweater, blue jeans and an unknown color baseball cap, he also typically wears eyeglasses.

Motorcycle vs SUV crash

A motorcycle with two passengers collided with a vehicle near the 7400 block of Rice Lake Road at approximately 1800 hours. The driver of the motorcycle, Michael Allen Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was transported an area hospital with critical injuries.

County receives grant to improve behavioral health services in northern part of county

St. Louis County has received nearly $100,000 to work with community partners to develop the Mesabi Behavioral Health Network (MBHN). The grant is from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Heath Resources and Services Administration. The MBHN is a collaborative group of community members and providers whose mission is to improve the behavioral health and wellbeing of individuals and families in the northern half of St. Louis County.
