Release of Level 3 Predatory Offender to Lakewood Township

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office would like to notify the public about the release of a level 3 predatory offender. Michael Pero will move to an address in Lakewood Township on 09/07/2023. He will be supervised by Arrowhead Regional Corrections agents. Those offenders who are designated as Level 3 are subject to community notification upon changing addresses. Lakewood Township residents and community members who have any questions are asked to call Sergeant Eric Sathers at 218-336-4311.

Fatal incident with train

Fatal incident with train

At 6:00AM on August 28th, an 18year old male from Duluth was struck by a train on railroad tracks near Bear Trap Rd west of Hwy 33. He was alone and not in, or near, a vehicle at the time.  The incident is being investigated by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.  Initial findings indicate an intentional act. Name of the deceased is being withheld at this time.

Rice Lake Road to re-open Saturday, other project updates

Rice Lake Road in Duluth will re-open to thru traffic on Saturday, August 26, by no later than 5 p.m. The road has been closed for approximately three weeks between Arrowhead Road and Public Safety Drive due to work to replace a culvert on Chester Creek. Even though the road will be open, significant delays are expected to occur next Thursday, August 31, as paving will be occurring near the intersection of Rice Lake Road and Arrowhead Road. Drivers are recommended to use alternate routes that day.

Community Notification - Scam calls in our area

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office has taken numerous reports of scam calls in our area. The caller claims to be a member of law enforcement and says the person missed a court date and demands a monetary payment over the phone. These calls are not legitimate.

ATV Crash

ATV Crash

On August 23rd, 2023, at 2205 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7400 Block of Crane Lake Road due to a reported ATV crash with injuries.  The ATV had been located in the ditch by a local resident, with the driver of the ATV pinned underneath the machine. The injured driver was subsequently transported to the Cook Hospital by Orr Ambulance due to injuries received from the crash.
