St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth temporarily moves

The St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth has temporarily had to relocate due to water damage from this past weekend's heavy rain. For the next several weeks, Veterans Service Officers and other staff will be working out of the AP Cook Building, 2505 Rice Lake Road. All services for veterans and their family members are available from this temporary location. Contact information to schedule an appointment in Duluth remains the same: 218-725-5285.

This temporary move does not affect any of the county's other Veterans Services Offices, which are in Virginia, Hibbing and Ely.

St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay today recognized the life saving responses of citizens, volunteer firefighters, law enforcement other first responders, and 911 emergency communications specialists as he presented 911 Lifesaver Awards to the people involved in three separate incidents.

Heavy rains lead to flooding and washed out roads

Rainfall over the weekend of September 23rd-24th led to flooding in several areas of southern St. Louis County. Most notably, the intersection of Maple Grove Road and Mall Drive in Duluth. Several other lesser traveled county roads also experienced washouts, including portions of:

  • Cant Road south of Lismore Road
  • Pioneer Junction Road between Smith River Road and Pioneer Road
  • App Road between West Knife River Road and Two Harbors Road
  • Strand Road between Jean Duluth Road and Washburn Road.

Level 3 predatory offender moving to Stoney Brook Township

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office would like to notify the public about the release of a level three predatory offender. Kenneth John Fosness III has moved to Stoney Brook Township, west of Duluth. Those offenders who are designated as Level Three, are subject to community notification upon changing addresses.
Stoney Brook Township residents and community members who have any questions, or would like to discuss this matter further are asked to call Sergeant Eric Sathers at 218-336-4311.

St. Louis County Public Health is offering free half-day safeTALK trainings designed to teach people how to reach out to someone thinking about suicide and help them keep safe by promptly connecting them with supportive resources that can help them in choosing to live. Advance registration is required as space is limited.
