New vaccine and testing opportunities this week in St. Louis County

St. Louis County Public Health continues to offer COVID-19 vaccine appointments and COVID-19 testing opportunities. Vaccines available at these clinics include Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson and Johnson. Also available are Pfizer boosters for those who are eligible, as well as third doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for immunocompromised individuals.

Homicide in Culver Township ---- Names Released

At approximately 1:00AM on October 16, 2021, St Louis County 911 received a call from a father asking the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office to check on his son. The adult son lived at an address in rural Culver Township, north of Brookston.

The reporting party  responded to the residence and arrived before deputies. He found a deceased male outside of the residence. Shortly after deputies arrived on scene, they found a second deceased male outside of the residence.

St. Louis County Board to consider ARPA use conceptual framework

After months of discussion and reviewing eligible options, the St. Louis County Board soon is expected to vote on a conceptual framework of how best to invest the $54.5 million in federal funds the county is expecting to receive as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The county has already received $27.3 million in funds and expects to receive the same amount next year.

 

Commissioners will discuss the broad plans at their Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, October 12. Assuming the resolution receives preliminary approval that day, then the Board would vote on the matter on October 26.

The return of students to in-person learning, combined with the rising number of new COVID-19 cases, has greatly increased the demand for COVID-19 testing. St. Louis County Public Health is working with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to increase the availability of walk-in saliva tests on the Iron Range. Meanwhile the DECC in Duluth is expanding its schedule
