On March 11, 2025 at approximately 1616 hours, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office deputies were requested to conduct a welfare check on a Mountain Iron resident, identified as 39-year-old, Benjamin James Sherwood.
A 61-year-old male with dementia went missing on 03/08/2025 at approximately 3:30 PM. He was last seen around 6:30 PM in the area of Hwy 2 and Independence Rd. in Brevator Township where he was reportedly hitchhiking and then looking for a place to sleep.
St. Louis County Public Works engineers are conducting planning studies for two intersections near Lowell Elementary School. As part of this work, the county is hosting a public meeting to get input from neighbors and anyone who regularly travels through this area. The meeting will be Tuesday, March 11, at 6 p.m., in the St. Scholastica Student Center, 1200 Kenwood Avenue. The meeting also will be livestreamed for anyone wishing to attend virtually.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office hosted a media briefing Wednesday to offer tips to help people avoid falling victim to a range of recent scams. These scams can come by email, phone, text or various online apps. Investigators encourage people to report all scam attempts to law enforcement and provided the following guidance to help people recognize and avoid being scammed:
Spring load restrictions have been announced for the North-Central Zone of Minnesota, which includes the southwest corner of St. Louis County. Restrictions will go into effect on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. The North-Central Zone includes the area south of US Highway 2 and west of State Highway 33.
