County Attorney's Office Sponsors the 2025 Child Abuse Summit

The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office is pleased to announce that it is a Gold Sponsor of the “2025 Child Abuse Summit: Tips from the Team,” hosted by the University of Minnesota Medical School Department of Pediatrics and presented by the Otto Bremer Trust Center for Safe and Healthy Children. The Summit addresses health care and professional issues surrounding child and family maltreatment such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect. The Summit will provide up-to-date instruction on the prevention, recognition, intervention, treatment, and investigation of child and family maltreatment. Attendees include members of the medical field, social workers, law enforcement, child protection workers, attorneys, counselors and psychologists, and students.

National Night Out event unites three townships

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with three townships - Clinton, Cherry, and McDavitt - to host a memorable National Night Out event. Activities will be held at the Clinton Community Center, 8907 Hwy 37, Iron, on Tuesday August 5, from 4:30-8 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly event.

Fatal Residential House Fire Investigation- Beatty Township

At approximately 9:20 PM last night Deputies with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with fire personal from Cook, Orr, Kinney-Great Scott and Greenwood were dispatched to a residential house fire in Beatty Township.  Upon arrival the house was fully engulfed.  Through investigation two parties were located in the residence deceased.  This incident is still under investigation and names are being withheld pending notification of family.  The Sheriff's Office along with the State Fire Marshall's Office are still actively investigating.

Ashley Rose Cook Sentenced

Today in St. Louis County District Court in Hibbing, the Honorable Rachel Sullivan sentenced Ashley Rose Cook, 21, to 48 months in prison for Second Degree Manslaughter in the overdose death of Isaiah Lamar Deegan, announced St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki. Ms. Cook pleaded guilty to Second Degree Manslaughter during a hearing on May 15, 2025.

Fires and deadly use of force Normanna Township

At about 9:20 this morning, the St. Louis County 911 center received a call reporting a structure fire on Heritage Trail near East Pioneer Road in Normanna Township. The caller said their neighbor had sprayed a family member with gasoline and set their home on fire.
