Assault - Babbit, MN

On January 29th at approximately 1457 hours the St Louis County dispatch received a call from a address in Unorganized Township U61R13, Babbitt, MN.   A 71 year-old male reported that he had been stabbed in the neck by a 36 year-old female that was staying in his home.   The male was transported to Duluth for treatment of non-life threating injuries.  The female was treated for superficial injuries and then Lodged into St. Louis County Jail for 2nd degree assault.   This incident is under investigation by the St Louis County Sheriffs office.  The names of the individuals are being held at this time for investigative purposes.   This was a isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

Two area students earn $2,000 scholarships from MN Sheriffs' Association

The Minnesota Sheriffs' Association (MSA) has announced its annual list of scholarship winners,
and two area college students are among the 24 recipients. Katie Chamernick, a native of Chisholm currently living in Duluth; and Hayden Picek of Cook, each received a $2,000 scholarship to assist with education costs as they pursue a degree that will lead to a career in law enforcement.

Counting unsheltered individuals and families is the goal of an annual survey, which St. Louis County’s Public Health and Human Service Department is conducting on Thursday, January 27.
