U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar held a news conference Monday at the St. Louis County Attorney's Office to highlight her bipartisan Synthetic Abuse and Labeling of Toxic Substances (SALTS) Act that is awaiting the President's signature as a part of a larger bipartisan bill to help combat the opioid epidemic. Senator Klobuchar was joined by St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin, as well as local law enforcement officials and a Northland man who lost his daughter to a fentanyl overdose, as she discussed the legislation, which will make it easier to prosecute the sale and distribution of “analogue” drugs, which are synthetic substances that are substantially similar to illegal drugs.

County Board to Pass Proclamation Remembering 1918 Fire

This week marks the 100th anniversary of the devastating fires of 1918, the worst natural disaster in Minnesota's history. To pay tribute to the lives lost and raise awareness of the anniversary, the County Board's meeting on Tuesday, October 9, will include a presentation about the fires and the resulting damage in St. Louis County. The Board also will issue a proclamation marking Friday, October 12, as 1918 Fires Remembrance Day in St. Louis County. The County Board meeting is being held at the Midway Township Town Hall, 3230 Midway Road.

St. Louis County Earns Breastfeeding Friendly Award

St Louis County Public Health has received a Breastfeeding Friendly Health Department Award from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for its contributions to the health of mothers and their babies. Representatives from MDH will present the award to public health staff at the County Board meeting on Tuesday, October 9. The meeting is being held at the Midway Township Town Hall, 3230 Midway Road.
