ATV Accident with Injuries

ATV Accident with Injuries

On 06-05-2020, at approximately 3:30 PM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with the Orr Ambulance Service responded to the intersection of County Rd. 180 and Forest Rd. 203 in rural Orr, MN in Camp Five Township for an ATV rollover accident with injuries.  An adult male driver and adult female passenger were riding on County Rd. 180 at the intersection of Forest Rd. 203 when the ATV drove off the road right side and rolled down a 30 foot embankment.  The male driver was partially ejected from the ATV and sustained non-life threatening head injuries.  The female passenger was uninjured. The male and female were not wearing helmets.  The male was transported by Orr Ambulance to the Cook Hospital for treatment.  The names of the involved parties are being withheld at this time. The accident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Suspicious Item Side Lake Area

On 06-05-2020, at approximately 11:00 AM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7600 block of McCarthy Beach Rd. in Side Lake, MN in French Township for the report of a suspicious item found near a fire pit within the McCarthy Beach State Park.  Deputies responded and determine the item was suspicious in nature and cordoned off the area with assistance from McCarthy Beach State Park Rangers and the French Township Fire Department.  The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad responded to the scene and determine the item was not an explosive device and there was no threat to public safety.

Eligible communities and agencies invited to apply for CDBG and ESG COVID-19 Funds

St. Louis County is receiving a special 2020 allocation of funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address the current COVID-19 pandemic. As an entitlement entity for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding, St. Louis County has been notified of Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding awards of $1,164,632 in CDBG-CV and $578,797 in ESG-CV.

St. Louis County seeks volunteers to serve on mental health advisory council

St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services is looking for volunteers to provide input on local mental health services for children and adults. The county is forming two Local Mental Health Advisory Councils - one for the northern part of the county, and the other for the southern part. Each group will meet in their own part of the county.

Side Lake area ATV Accident with Injuries - UPDATED

On 05-30-2020, at approximately 3:00 PM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with Chisholm Ambulance Service and French Township Fire and First Responders were dispatched to the Chisholm ATV trail head on the Hannon Rd. East of HWY 5 in the Side Lake area in Unorganized Township 59-21 for an ATV accident with injuries.  A lone male operator of an ATV was traveling northbound on the trail approximately .7 miles North of the Hannon Rd., when he was ejected from the ATV. Another member of the ATV party drove the male to the trail head to meet with medical personnel.  The male was transported by Chisholm ambulance to Fairview Medical Center in Hibbing, MN.  The male was later transported by ambulance to St. Luke's hospital in Duluth for non-life threatening injuries.  Alcohol consumption appears to be a contributing factor in the accident.
