Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP)

The Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) works with communities to invest in opportunities that lead to equitable, healthy, and positive conditions that promote the health and well-being of all Minnesotans. SHIP’s purpose is to:

  • Address the leading preventable causes of illness and death by expanding opportunities for active living, healthy eating and commercial tobacco-free living.
  • Promote evidence-based, community-driven, comprehensive strategies to create healthy communities.
  • Measure the impact of community health improvement practices which, over time, work to contain health care costs and reduce chronic diseases.

Healthy Northland

SHIP funding in Northeast Minnesota is distributed to Healthy Northland, a collaborative of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis counties. Healthy Northland helps support SHIP across these seven counties of Northeast Minnesota. Visit the Healthy Northland website to learn more.

What is Happening Across St. Louis County?

As public health professionals, we work with local non-profits and schools to implement SHIP strategies that are:

  • Driven by community health priorities.

  • Based on scientific evidence.

  • Based on community input.

  • Focused on policy, systems, and environmental changes that support healthy behaviors.

  • Addressing health disparities and inequities.
