Fredenberg Township "Explosion" Complaint

On 12/06/2023, at approximately 8:30pm, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received multiple calls to 911 regarding a possible explosion somewhere within Fredenberg Township.  Reporting parties described the incident as a brief flash of light followed by a loud explosion. On 12/07/2023, at approximately 1:30pm, a property owner in Fredenberg Township called 911 to report possibly finding the source of the complaint on his property, which strongly suggests the explosion was an illegal firework.

New deputies to be sworn in, recent promotions recognized

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office will hold a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday, December 12, at 11 a.m. at the Public Safety Building, 2030 Arlington Avenue, Duluth. Six new deputies will take an oath to serve and be sworn in. An additional nine deputies will be recognized for recent promotions.

Drug Bust

On November 29, 2023 members of the Lake Superior Violent Offender's Task Force executed a search warrant on a vehicle after conducting a traffic stop at the Anchor Lake Rest Stop in unorganized township 56-17. The search warrant on the vehicle yielded $19,100 currency, methamphetamine, a handgun and marijuana. The driver of the vehicle was lodged at the St. Louis Co jail in Virginia on various charges. A subsequent search warrant was later executed at the individuals residence in Hoyt Lakes. During the execution of the search warrant, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine and schedule 4 pills were located. An additional $95,000 currency and firearms were also seized.

Andrew Bearden Williams Sentenced

Andrew Bearden Williams Sentenced

Andrew Bearden Williams was sentenced to two concurrent sentences of 234 months and 360 months in prison for the sexual assaults of a minor in Duluth between August 1, 2020, and October 31, 2020. The County Attorney’s Office credits the success in this case to the bravery of the victim in her testimony before the Grand Jury and the exceptional work of the Duluth Police Department for their thorough and tireless investigation of this case. The case was prosecuted by Assistant St. Louis County Attorney Michael Hagley and Deputy County Attorney Jon Holets.

St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth returns to Village Mall location

The St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth has returned to its normal location in the Village Mall Office location at 4815 Burning Tree Road, Suite 100. For the last two months, Veterans Service Officers and other staff had to relocate after heavy rain in late September led to significant water damage.
