St. Louis County Board Chair Annie Harala has signed a Declaration of State of Local Emergency and State of Local Disaster for St. Louis County. The declaration comes eight days after the Camp House fire began, and one week after the Jenkins Creek, and Munger Shaw fires began burning. The three wildfires have burned more than 30,000 acres of land in St. Louis County and destroyed more than 150 structures.
St. Louis County Public Works engineers have finished gathering input and will announce recommendations for two intersections they've been studying near Lowell Elementary School. They will announce their final recommendations and discuss next steps at a public meeting on Thursday, June 5, at 6 p.m., in the St. Scholastica Student Center, 1200 Kenwood Avenue. The meeting also will be livestreamed for anyone wishing to attend virtually.
On May 18th, 2025, at 8:27pm, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported ATV crash, with injured riders. The crash occurred on the ATV trail, southeast of Elephant Lake. Elephant Lake is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Orr, MN.
The two-mile segment of Midway Road between Highway 194 in Hermantown and North Pike Lake Road in Canosia Township has a variety of safety concerns including a high density of access points and additional intersections with frontage roads, an aging traffic signal, lack of accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists along a road that is heavily traveled by large vehicles, and other issues.
