St. Louis County and the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, publicly known as Resource Renew, have negotiated an agreement for Resource Renew to dispose of municipal solid waste (MSW) at the St. Louis County Regional Landfill in Virginia. St. Louis County Commissioners today approved a 10-year contract with Resource Renew, which would begin in July of 2026. The agreement still needs approval from the WLSSD Board, which will discuss the matter on May 19.

May is Maternal Mental Health Month, and St. Louis County Public Health is highlighting resources available for new and expectant parents who may be struggling.

On May 4, 2025 at approximately 1651 hours, area first responders and law-enforcement were dispatch to the report of a structure fire located at the Lakeland Mobile Home Park in Biwabik Township. 

On April 30, 2025, at approximately 10:55 AM, members of the Lake Superior Violent Offender's Task Force, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and Hibbing Police Department executed a search warrant at 3590 Koivula Rd. in the City of Hibbing.

The St. Louis County Jail in partnership with Aspirus St. Luke's has earned accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care by demonstrating compliance with NCCHC’s nationally recognized standards of care for correctional health services in jails. Accreditation recognizes the commitment of staff at the Jail and Aspirus St. Luke's to providing quality health services for the incarcerated population.
