Department Spotlight

It’s the largest department in St. Louis County, with more than 500 employees and a budget that represents just over a quarter of the entire county budget. Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) is here to help the most vulnerable residents of our county, from before birth – through our Superior Babies program – to after death with burial services for someone who leaves no means to cover disposition costs.

Sometimes the toughest jobs are the most rewarding jobs. In this article, Ann Busche, Director of St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services, highlights the mission of PHHS and the services provided: "...every child is entitled to be loved and cared for; every adult wants to be successful, self-sufficient and able to provide for their family; everyone wants to live a healthy life, free from disease and addiction; everyone wants to age with grace and dignity. Together we strive to make these beliefs become a reality."
