On 12/17/24 the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office assisted Bois Forte Tribal Police with a Hit and Run accident resulting in the death of an adult female on Lake Vermilion Reservation Road near Fortune Bay Resort and Casino within the Bois Forte Reservation.

On 12/16/2024 at approximately 3:00 PM, member of the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force (LSVOTF) arrested 20-year-old Ashley Rose Cook in the 9200 block of Vinland Street in Duluth following an investigation into a fentanyl overdose death that occurred in the City of Hibbing on 7/30/2023.

The St. Louis County Board has unanimously approved its 2025 budget at $504,403,199. The budget supports key investments to ensure delivery of the county's broad range of services, including public safety, roads and bridges, public health and human services and general government while also factoring in significant inflationary impacts. It is the first time the county's budget has topped $500 million

On 12/10/2024 at approximately 6PM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and several fire departments were dispatched to the report of a garage on fire in the 1700 Block of Shilhon Rd in Duluth Township.

The St. Louis County Board has approved an ordinance to regulate cannabis businesses in St. Louis County. The ordinance goes into effect January 1, 2025, and covers the municipalities, townships and unorganized townships in St. Louis County where the county is the planning and zoning authority.
