Sheriff's office provides tips to avoid scams

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office hosted a media briefing Wednesday to offer tips to help people avoid falling victim to a range of recent scams. These scams can come by email, phone, text or various online apps. Investigators encourage people to report all scam attempts to law enforcement and provided the following guidance to help people recognize and avoid being scammed:

Spring load restrictions announced for portion of St. Louis County Roads

Spring load restrictions have been announced for the North-Central Zone of Minnesota, which includes the southwest corner of St. Louis County. Restrictions will go into effect on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. The North-Central Zone includes the area south of US Highway 2 and west of State Highway 33.

Garage Fire in Grand Lake Township

On 3/3/2025 at approximately 8:30 PM Deputies were dispatched to the 5900 Block of Old Miller Trunk Hwy for the report of a detached garage on fire.  The cause of the fire was likely a diesel heater that had been running earlier in the evening.  No one was in the garage at the time of the fire and no foul play is suspected.   The garage and contents were a total loss.

St. Louis County Board approves new floodplain ordinance

The St. Louis County Board approved a new floodplain ordinance during its meeting Tuesday. The new ordinance - officially known as Floodplain Ordinance 69 - is the result of a lengthy process and follows the recommendation of the St. Louis County Planning Commission. It was necessary to ensure the county's floodplain management measures are in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. NFIP compliance is needed in order for the county to be able to issue permits within a flood plain, and for property owners in the county to be able to be eligible for flood insurance.

Sheriff honors 24 individuals with 911 Lifesaver Awards

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office today recognized the lifesaving responses of 24 citizens, first responders, and 911 emergency communications specialists, presenting them with 911 Lifesaver Awards for their involvement in nine separate incidents.
