Two Community Connect events will be held in St. Louis County for people experiencing or at risk of being homeless. The events include a hot meal and access to resources and information on housing and other free services in our community. The two events will be:

Thursday, October 24

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Miner's Memorial Building, 821 South 9th Avenue, Virginia

The services available at each of the Community Connect events vary slightly depending on the providers involved. Both with include representatives able to help with housing, medical and legal services, plus opportunity to resolve outstanding warrants. 

Bridging Health Duluth, a community health collaborative, will hold its second annual Shaping a Healthy Communities luncheon on October 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clyde Iron Works, 2920 West Michigan Street. Citizens and stakeholders are invited to attend the free lunch and participate in the discussion. Bridging Health Duluth will be sharing the results of its 2020-2022 Community Health Needs Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan, and is seeking community involvement in work around three priority areas: youth substance use, mental health, and food insecurity. 

St. Louis County Public Works and the City of Duluth will hold a public meeting to discuss next year's project to reconstruct Rice Lake Road from Arrowhead Road to north of Technology Drive. The meeting will be Thursday, October 17, at 6 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 2030 Arlington Avenue in Duluth. County and City engineers will present information and answer questions about the scope and design of the project, construction impacts, and the expected schedule.

How will health care change in coming years? How will health care providers and insurance companies adapt to those changes? St. Louis County Human Resources is hosting a panel discussion on the topic, featuring noted representatives from area hospitals, and the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

"Reinventing Health Care" will be Friday, October 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Hoops Brewery, 325 South Lake Avenue in Duluth.

After 16 months of construction, the St. Louis County Government Services Center-Cook is complete. A ribbon cutting will be held Tuesday, October 15, at 1:15 p.m., at the facility at 9558 Ashawa Road in Cook.
