Construction begins Monday, June 2, to build a J-turn at the intersections of Highways 169 and 25 in Great Scott Township. Travelers on Highway 169 should be aware that delays are likely as traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Additionally, traffic on Highway 25 will be detoured through median openings on Highway 169. The project is expected to be complete by early August.
On May 26th, 2025 at approximately 115pm in the 4100 Block of Willard Road in Rice Lake, a St. Louis County Deputy was responding to a report of suspicious male in the area. While attempting to arrest the male, he became physically assaultive with the Deputy. During the course of the assault, the male was able to aggressive strangle the Deputy. The suspect fled on foot, ultimately climbing up a 30' tree, where negotiations took place for 4 hours. Eventually the male came down and was taken into custody and lodged at the St Louis County Jail without further incident. The Deputy involved in the assault was treated and released from a medical facility.
On May 22, 2025 at approximately 04:05PM a motor vehicle crash was reported just south on West Tisher Rd on Jean Duluth Rd in the city of Rice Lake. Sheriff's deputies responded along with the Rice Lake Fire Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Volunteer Rescue Squad.
On Monday, May 19, 2025, at about 4:33 PM, Deputies responded to the area of Hwy. 2 and Hwy. 33 in Saginaw on a report of a school bus driver who was having difficulty maintaining his lane and seemed to be confused and unsure about his location. The caller was a 15-year-old passenger on the bus and was able to convince the driver to pull over at the Caywood Country Store. Deputies arrived a short time later and determined the driver was not impaired but noted he seemed to be confused as to his location and route. Medical personnel responded and evaluated the driver but did not detect a significant medical condition.
