Cabin Fire in Pequaywan Township

Fire Fighters from the Pequaywan Lake, Brimson Fire Department, and St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a cabin fire at 8944 W. Branch Rd. Fire personnel worked tirelessly as they attempted to extinguish flames. The cabin with attached garage was a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Culver Township House Fire

Culver Township House Fire

On November 21st at approximately 1923 hours the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the call of a house fire in Culver Township. When deputies arrived on scene the home was fully engulfed. The single occupant of the home escaped with out injuries. Several pets inside the home were able to make it out safely, but unfortunately one dog was killed in the fire. The 16 year old female that was home at the time of the fire was alerted to the fire by one of the family's dogs.

Missing Person: Janeen Bauer Peters

Missing Person: Janeen Bauer Peters

On November 19, 2018, family members of 57-year-old Janeen Bauer Peters reported to law enforcement that she was missing. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is concerned for her welfare and is asking for the public’s help in locating Peters. She was last seen Nov 11th driving her vehicle north of Duluth on North Shore Drive. Investigators believe on Nov 13th she was at a restaurant in Duluth.

Public Meeting on the Budget

The St. Louis County Board will hold two public meetings to receive comments on its 2019 proposed tax levy and operating budget. The first meeting is Thursday, November 29, at 7 p.m. in the Virginia Courthouse, lower level conference room. The second meeting will be Thursday, December 6, at 7 p.m. in the County Board Room on the second floor of the Duluth Courthouse.

Fire damages Canosia Township home; smoke detector wakes occupant who made it out safely.

The fire is believed to have started in the chimney, and then spread to the rest of the home, causing substantial damage.
