Lost Person - Lavell Township

On May 30th, 2020, at approximately 12:15 PM the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and St. Louis County Rescue Squad were dispatched to the 10800 block of Oja Rd. in rural Hibbing, MN in Lavell Township for a lost person.  Cameron called into St. Louis County dispatch advising that she had been walking on trails South of her cabin, when she became lost in a swampy area.  Cameron remained stationary as instructed and was eventually located uninjured by a St. Louis County Deputy and a Rescue Squad member.  Cameron was escorted out of the woods and back to her nearby cabin. Due to Cameron having a cellphone with her, it aided in locating her quickly.

Portion of North Shore Drive (CSAH 61) to close June 1 for bridge replacement

Replacement of the bridge spanning the French River will close a segment of North Shore Drive beginning Monday, June 1. Traffic will be detoured along Ryan Road, MN Highway 61 and Homestead Road. Work is expected to last until mid-November.

Auditor's Service Center to re-open Monday; update on other county operations

Auditor's Service Center to re-open Monday; update on other county operations

The St. Louis County Auditor's Service Center at the Miller Hill Mall will re-open Monday, June 1, though with numerous safety protocols in place to protect customers and employees. Even with the re-opening, people are encouraged to continue using the secure drop box outside the Service Center for transactions when at all possible.

James "Ding" Holter bridge dedicated

James "Ding" Holter bridge dedicated

The recently reconstructed bridge spanning the Black Duck River in Camp Five Township now carries an honorary name - the James "Ding" Holter Memorial Bridge. In a dedication ceremony yesterday, Holter's family was given the opportunity to unveil the sign that now identifies the bridge in his name.
