Three years ago this week, facing growing concerns about a new and highly contagious virus, St. Louis County activated its Emergency Operations Center. The County Board declared a local state of emergency. Numerous events were canceled and buildings closed to public access - to limit the virus' spread allow time to plan. A few days later came news of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in St. Louis County.

The St. Louis County Auditor's Service Center - normally located at the Miller Hill Mall - has set up temporary operations at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth. One arrested following break-ins at cabins in Makinen area

St. Louis County Deputies are investigating a series of burglaries that occurred at cabins in unorganized township 57-16 near Makinen. One person has been arrested and charged. Deputies continue to look for a a snowmobile that was stolen from one of the properties.

Townhall meetings set for providers/community agencies regarding Medical Assistance renewal impacts

A pandemic-era rule that was put in place to ensure continuous insurance coverage for people receiving Medical Assistance (MA) is soon ending. This means the annual eligibility renewal requirement will again resume. Restarting the process will create challenges for recipients, county staff and others tasked with helping complete renewals, and for service providers who may belatedly learn a customer has lost insurance.

To help providers and community partners understand the situation and better prepare for it, St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services staff will hold two townhall meetings later this month.
