St. Louis County to host news conference to discuss wildfire risk, safety reminders, and preparation/response plans

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a news conference Wednesday, April 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Building in Duluth, 2030 Arlington Avenue. The focus will be the ongoing wildfire risk, how multiple agencies are working together to prepare, how the public can help reduce the risk, and a new online mapping tool where people can monitor - by community and neighborhood - their risk level and how to prepare if evacuation is needed.

After an unseasonably dry winter, the heavy March snowstorm blanketed all of St. Louis County with snow totals ranging from nine to 24 inches. The St. Louis County Public Works team, which is responsible for maintaining 3,000 miles of roads, continues to plow and treat the roads to ensure safe traveling conditions.

One person dies in a single vehicle accident

On March 22, 2024 at approximately 1354 hours, area first responders and law enforcement were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle accident on the Orr Buyck Rd near Myrtle Lake, located in Portage Township, north of Orr, MN. Upon the arrival of emergency services, the driver of the vehicle, who was the only occupant, was pronounced deceased.
