ATV Accident - Timber Bay Road

On 7/22/19 at approximately 11:32 AM St. Louis County Deputies received a report of a personal injury accident involving and side by side ATV and a passenger car. The male operator of the ATV had rolled the machine and the ATV struck the passenger car. St. Louis County Deputies and Babbitt Police responded to the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident and alcohol was a contributing factor.

Tractor Fatality - Update

On July 21st at approximately 8:00 P.M. on the 8700 Blk of Hwy 5 in Morcom Township, (North of the Side Lake area), the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call that an adult male had been in a skid steer tractor and that it had fell into a pond on the property and had been underwater for almost 30 minutes.

Water Emergency - Whiteface Reservoir

On July 20th, 2019 at approximately 3:20 P.M. Saint Louis County Sheriff's deputies responded to a water emergency at the Whiteface Reservoir.  A 17 year old male had been water tubing along with two other individuals behind a Sea-Doo Jet Ski when the 17 year old was ejected from the tube and injured.  The two other individuals that were on the same tube as the victim were not injured.  Life Link lll air medical transported the juvenile to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth with Non-Life Threatening injuries.

Single Vehicle Accident with Injuries

On 07-16-2019, at approximately 11:32 A.M. the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office assisted by the MN State Patrol, Biwabik Ambulance, Lakeland Fire & 1st Responders, Virginia Fire/Ambulance and Life Link Air Medical responded to a single motor vehicle accident with injuries that occurred in the 6600 block of Barker Rd. E. approximately 1/2 mile South of Heritage Trail E. in rural Gilbert, MN in Unorganized Township 57-16.  A 57 year old Gilbert woman along with a 3 year old male passenger were driving northbound in the 6600 block of Barker Rd. E. negotiating a left hand curve in the roadway, when the vehicle drove off road right and collided with several trees in the ditch.  The driver and passenger were both transported by Life Link Air Medical to Essentia Health- Duluth for medical treatment.  The exact extent of injuries are unknown. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.   The MN State Patrol assisted at the scene of the accident.

Water Emergency (Whiteface Reservoir, Colvin Township)

On 7/15/2019 at around 10:15 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with Colvin First Responders, Hoyt Lakes Ambulance and the St. Louis County Rescue Squad responded to a water emergency on Whiteface Reservoir.  A homeowner in the 4700 block of North Cabin Circle heard a man yelling for help from the lake.  He got in his boat and located the 34 year old Duluth man in the lake swimming but in need of help.  He gave the man a life jacket and with the assistance of rescue personnel and their boat, assisted him into a boat and to shore.  The Duluth man was medically cleared and eventually placed at detox.  The incident remains under investigation at this time.  It is unknown at this time if the man had fallen out of a watercraft or had swam out from shore.  No boat was located by rescue personnel at the time and it appears that he was alone.
