On September 27, 2023, at 1152 hours the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a CN train versus semi in the 1800 block of Brimson Road in Ault Township. It was reported that a logging truck was struck by a train and the logs were all over the roadway and train tracks. There was no derailment, and no hazardous materials were spilled. Upon responders arriving on scene, the driver of the semi, a 57-year-old Two Harbors man, was attended to for his injuries and was ultimately transported by the Lake County Ambulance to the St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth for his injuries. Both CN employees who were on the train at the time were not injured.
The St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth has temporarily had to relocate due to water damage from this past weekend's heavy rain. For the next several weeks, Veterans Service Officers and other staff will be working out of the AP Cook Building, 2505 Rice Lake Road. All services for veterans and their family members are available from this temporary location. Contact information to schedule an appointment in Duluth remains the same: 218-725-5285.
This temporary move does not affect any of the county's other Veterans Services Offices, which are in Virginia, Hibbing and Ely.
Rainfall over the weekend of September 23rd-24th led to flooding in several areas of southern St. Louis County. Most notably, the intersection of Maple Grove Road and Mall Drive in Duluth. Several other lesser traveled county roads also experienced washouts, including portions of:
