On May 22, 2025 at approximately 04:05PM a motor vehicle crash was reported just south on West Tisher Rd on Jean Duluth Rd in the city of Rice Lake.  Sheriff's deputies responded along with the Rice Lake Fire Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Plummer found Guilty

On May 20, 2025, a jury found Darrius Lamar Plummer, 35, of Canton, Michigan, guilty of Second-Degree Murder without intent while committing a Felony, announced St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki. The verdict was delivered following a jury trial that began on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 before the Honorable Leslie Beiers.

School bus incident in Saginaw

On Monday, May 19, 2025, at about 4:33 PM, Deputies responded to the area of Hwy. 2 and Hwy. 33 in Saginaw on a report of a school bus driver who was having difficulty maintaining his lane and seemed to be confused and unsure about his location. The caller was a 15-year-old passenger on the bus and was able to convince the driver to pull over at the Caywood Country Store. Deputies arrived a short time later and determined the driver was not impaired but noted he seemed to be confused as to his location and route. Medical personnel responded and evaluated the driver but did not detect a significant medical condition.

St. Louis County declares state of local emergency, state of local disaster

St. Louis County Board Chair Annie Harala has signed a Declaration of State of Local Emergency and State of Local Disaster for St. Louis County. The declaration comes eight days after the Camp House fire began, and one week after the Jenkins Creek, and Munger Shaw fires began burning. The three wildfires have burned more than 30,000 acres of land in St. Louis County and destroyed more than 150 structures.

Recommendations to be announced for two intersections near Duluth's Lowell Elementary

St. Louis County Public Works engineers have finished gathering input and will announce recommendations for two intersections they've been studying near Lowell Elementary School. They will announce their final recommendations and discuss next steps at a public meeting on Thursday, June 5, at 6 p.m., in the St. Scholastica Student Center, 1200 Kenwood Avenue. The meeting also will be livestreamed for anyone wishing to attend virtually.
