On 08/03/2019, at approximately 8:25 P.M. the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, and the Voyageur National Park Service were dispatched to a lost person near Kettle Falls on Namakan Lake.

Accident with Injury in Britt area

On 8/01/2019 at around 2 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle crash up on the Britt Bypass Road in rural Britt.  Upon arrival deputies discovered the vehicle had been traveling northwest in the 7200 block of Britt Bypass Road when it crossed the centerline and traveled down into the oncoming lane's ditch, hit an embankment, went airborn and then struck a large tree.  The sole occupant and driver of the truck Mary Richard was transported to the Virginia Hospital by ambulance and treated for what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.  The incident remains under investigation at this time.

UPDATE: Drowning victim identified

UPDATE: Drowning victim identified

On 7/27/19 at approximately 2:16PM The St. Louis County Sheriffs Office, The Duluth Police Department, The Duluth Fire Department, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Minnesota DNR, and U.S. Coast Guard responded to a call of a male had who had been reported trespassing on CN Property near the Ore Docks. The male was reported to be exhibiting odd behavior when police arrived to check on him and he entered the water going under and never resurfaced. The Duluth Fire Department located the submerged male and brought him to shore. The male was transported by Mayo Ambulance to a Duluth Area hospital. Lifesaving efforts were performed, but the man ultimately died at the hospital. The male is estimated to be around 45 years old, but positive identification is pending. The incdent remains under investigation by The St. Louis County Sheriffs Office.
Update:  The deceased has been identified as JAMES AUTERO LEAVELL of Duluth, Minnesota and next of kin has been notified.

Two Duluth men sentenced to prison for sex trafficking a 15-year-old

United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald announced the sentencing of ANDRE MATHIS, JR., a/k/a Isaac Brown, 33, AMOS KIPROP KOECH, 44, for sex trafficking a 15-year-old minor. MATHIS, who pleaded guilty on January 10, 2019, was sentenced to 292 months in prison. KOECH, who was convicted by a federal jury on January 22, 2019, was sentenced to 130 months in prison. Both defendants were sentenced yesterday before Senior Judge Donovan W. Frank in U.S. District Court in Duluth, Minnesota.
