Update - Missing Person

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with locating PRISCILLA JOY SOHM, a 25 year old Native American female who left the At Home Living group home facility in Canosia Township on July 21st, 2019. SOHM has a history of leaving the home without permission and was recently missing for approximately one month in May 2019, before being located in Superior, WI. SOHM is described as having black hair, brown eyes, approximately 5’8”, and weighing 150 pounds.

If anyone has information about SOHM’S whereabouts, you are asked to please call 911, or the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at 218-336-4350.

Additional Information or Update:

Priscilla Sohm was located this morning and brought to a local hospital by the Hermantown Police Department. She was not far from the Kings Creek Park area of Hermantown. I concerned caller had reported to 911 that people may have been camping in the area.  She appeared to be in good health.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public and our local news media for their assistance in helping locate Priscilla.

Train versus Car Crash

Deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the call of a vehicle being hit by a train in Lakewood Township. Vanhala was the driver and single occupant of the passenger car that was involved. Vanhala suffered substantial injuries from the crash and was transported by ambulance to Essentia St. Mary's in Duluth. His current condition is unknown at this time.

A road resurfacing project will close 40th Avenue West between Grand Avenue and 8th Street in Duluth on Monday and Tuesday next week, August 26-27. This segment of 40th Avenue West is actually a county road. It and Haines Road together are officially known as County State Aid Highway 91.

Youth ages 14-20 invited to join Sheriff's Office Explorers program

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Career Exploration Program is looking for interested youth to fill vacancies on its post. Law Enforcement Explorers is for students between the ages of 14 (completed 8th grade) and 20. The program is sponsored by local law enforcement agencies to provide career information to youth. It also provides structure and resources to help young adults make ethical choices and achieve their full potential.

Learn About Community Development Block Grant Funds

St. Louis County distributed $1.95 million in federal grant money in 2018 to communities and non-profit organizations in St. Louis County outside the City of Duluth. Duluth receives separate funding. Known as Community Development Block Grants, or CDBG funds, this money helped cover costs for renovations at the Hibbing Tourist/Senior Center, Floodwood Services and Training Center, and Vermilion Housing in Tower; site acquisition for North SLC Habitat for Humanity; demolition and clearance of a blighted structure in Kinney; accessibility improvements to the American Bear Association, Gnesen Town Hall, Lakewood Town Hall, and Hermantown Stebner Park; water and sewer infrastructure in seven communities; meals programs at the Salvation Army locations in Hibbing and Virginia; and support services for low-income and homeless people through seven non-profit organizations.
