Public Works will have a new tool to help them respond more quickly and effectively during winter storms. Roadway Weather Information Systems have been installed at five locations, which can detect the presence of snow/ice and send automatic alerts to road crews when dangerous conditions are present.
No one was home at the time, and deputies were able to put out the fire with an extinguisher before fire crews arrived. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is considered suspicious.
Major safety improvements are planned on Arrowhead Road between U.S. Highway 53 and Haines Road, including the addition of a frontage road, sidewalk and traffic signal. Also, the road will be resurfaced.
A two vehicles ended up in a water-filled ditch following a crash on the Vermilion Trail in Makinen Township. One of the vehicles overturned. The passenger in that vehicle survived, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Burnsville woman died and several others were injured after the boat they were riding on struck a dock and boat lift. Alcohol use is considered a factor in the crash, and the driver may be charged with criminal vehicular operation.
