June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, and multiple people and organizations in the Northland are teaming up this year to encourage conversations about safe storage of firearms, promote use of gun locks and honor those whose lives were cut short by firearms.

On May 21st, 2026, at 1539 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, along with numerous other law enforcement agencies, responded to the Cherry School, due to a report of a student having a gun in their backpack. 

Today, Demetrius Remond Norwood, 37, pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree – With Intent, Not Premeditated, St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is hosting "Coffee with a Cop" - an event aimed at building relationships and encouraging conversation between citizens and deputies.

On May 16 and 17th, 2026, members of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and LSVOTF executed a series of search warrants in rural St. Louis County, City of Virgina and the City of Gilbert.
