On May 26, 2026 at approximately 12:21 AM, the Orr fire department and several surrounding mutual aid fire departments responded to the report of a structure fire in the 5000 block of Old Hwy 53 located a few miles north of Orr, MN. 

On May 22, 2026 at approximately 10:44 PM, several area fire departments, EMS and St. Louis County deputies responded to the report of a structure fire in the 1900 block of Westhaven Dr. located in Greenwood Township.

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, and multiple people and organizations in the Northland are teaming up this year to encourage conversations about safe storage of firearms, promote use of gun locks and honor those whose lives were cut short by firearms.

On May 21st, 2026, at 1539 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, along with numerous other law enforcement agencies, responded to the Cherry School, due to a report of a student having a gun in their backpack. 

Today, Demetrius Remond Norwood, 37, pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree – With Intent, Not Premeditated, St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said.
