Boat & Water Safety Grant Program 

Grant Program Information

 

 

Counties receiving state boat & water safety grant funding are required to display information on their grant on their county website. This also applies on other DNR state grants as well. It affects both 2010 and 2011 state funding.

  • Grant Name: State Boat & Water Safety Grant to Counties

  • Project Manager: St. Louis County Sheriff

  • Type: Legislatively-directed appropriation

  • Purpose: Preventing or reducing boating accidents & drownings and making Minnesota's waters safe & enjoyable. This includes boating law enforcement, aids to navigation, response to & investigation of boating accidents/drownings, search, rescue & recovery operations, permitting of events & temp. structures and rental boat inspections.

During this period, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office:
  • patrolled the Mesabi bike trail system from Aurora to Hibbing
  • attended a Mesabi Trail education class
  • 10 deputies attended the OHV Laws and Regulations for Law Enforcement instructed by DNR Officer Jeff Koehn
  • collaborated with enforcement with the MN DNR on four (4) water skipping events on Lake Vermillion
