Help Support the Rescue Squad
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Volunteer Rescue Squad has provided rescue services and disaster relief within our county for 53 years. The Volunteer Rescue Squad is only able to accomplish its mission thru the generous support of their many donors.
Support: The Rescue Squad depends on the generous support of St. Louis County citizens in order to carry out its difficult and challenging mission. Donations are solicited through a direct-mail fundraising drive during June, July, and August.
Funding: Another source of Rescue Squad revenue is the Minnesota Boat and Water Safety Fund, a budget allocated to each of Minnesota’s 87 counties according to the amount of Boat and Water Safety activities the county engages in. The only way for the Rescue Squad to earn this money is by its members volunteering their time on water activities. The Squad is restricted in how it can spend these funds, thus; again depend heavily on the support of public donations.
Emergency Calls: Rescue Squad members participated in 319 operations in 2009. Volunteer hours donated by Rescue Squad personnel reached 17,910 in 2009.
This 100% volunteer organization performed 85 wilderness searches involving individuals, extricated accident victims from 7 vehicles, responded to 104 vehicle accidents, 41 medical emergencies, and 76 water-related incidents.
Equipment: Each year the Rescue Squad expands and refines their services to the community with the addition of equipment and training through their annual fund drive. Past contributions allowed them to purchase two bloodhound pups and update their Command Post with computers and radios. Contributions also provided training for their human trackers, K-9's and handlers.
Thank You: The Rescue Squad would like to thank the residents of St. Louis County who contribute to their annual fundraiser. It is through the generosity of individuals like you that they are able to continue providing and upgrading their services to residents and visitors to St. Louis County and the surrounding area. They would not be able to function without these hundreds of individual donations each year.
Donations: This year's donations will help provide the Rescue Squad with additional equipment and training. Their plans include the following:
Cold weather clothing
Mustang survival suits
GPS's - Global Positioning Systems
High level training
