Septic System Permitting

The first step is to download and complete the Subsurface Sewage Treatment System (SSTS) permit application.
After the SSTS application is received staff will:

  • Review the design, clarify details with the designer if necessary
  • Verify soils on site with the designer if requested
  • Issue the Permit To Construct the SSTS or return the application if more information is needed
  • If it is determined that the design does not conform to the requirements of Ordinance 55 the owner is notified and the application is returned
  • An owner may choose to apply for a Variance to be heard before the St. Louis County Board of Adjustment
  • Appropriate forms and instructions on the variance process will be provided
