NEWS RELEASE

Debbie Isabell Nelson to Receive Volunteer Recognition Award

St. Louis County will present a Volunteer Recognition Award to Debbie Isabell Nelson of Duluth, on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 9:30 AM at the Duluth Courthouse as part of its regular St. Louis County Board meeting.  Third District Commissioner Bill Kron will present the St. Louis County Volunteer Recognition Award to Debbie Isabell Nelson.

Ms. Nelson is married to Carl Nelson, and has two sons, Peter (Diane) and Joshua (Maureen), three “bonus” children (Kate, Eric and Scott), and five grand children (Ali, Lydia, AJ, Karou, and Olivia).  She was born and raised in Lincoln Park neighborhoods.

Since her teenage years when she was the first President of the Harrison Community Club Teen Board, Debbie Isabell Nelson has always been part of her neighborhood and community.  Even as a teen, she developed the ability to recognize people’s needs and also the ability to mobilize people to deal with those needs.

Debbie Isabell Nelson served as President of the Morgan Park Community Club, striving to keep the club a growing, living entity and an active partner with the City and the decisions made that affect Morgan Park.  For example, Debbie and the Morgan Park Sewer Task Force were the catalyst in the City’s decision to move ahead with the Morgan Park sewer/water project and to keep it funded with CDBG dollars.

Her leadership in bringing together diverse groups helped formulate the Morgan Park Beautification Project in 2006.  Using the theme: Let’s Beautify Morgan Park One Flower at a Time, One Lawn at a Time, One Alley at a Time, One piece of Litter at a

Time - each month the residents took on another task.

Debbie Isabell Nelson is a constant and tireless promoter of Morgan Park and its residents.  She has a vast network of friends, acquaintances, and connections, and doesn’t hesitate to use any or all of them to call in any favors she can to ask for things to help Morgan Park and her vision for this community and its residents.
