Homeowners Targeted

Targeted home owners in St. Louis County recently received a letter from National Deed Service, Inc., stating, “The U.S. Government Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC) website recommends that property owners should have an official or certified copy of their deed”.  National Deed Service, Inc., in turn, offers to obtain a certified copy for a fee of $69.50.   They also state in the mailing that “many government records are available free or at a nominal cost from government agencies.”

Given that, when a home owner purchases their home, they should have the original recorded copy of their deed - this is the “official” copy.  If, for some reason you do not have one, and need a certified copy, you can use the service of this company or you can obtain one from the St. Louis County Recorder’s office in person at the Duluth or Virginia Recorder’s office, or by mail.

If you request a copy by mail, please include a check for $10.00 made out to the St. Louis County Recorder stating that you are requesting a certified copy of your deed, and include your name, return address and document number-if you have it. If you do not have your document number, include the legal description (or parcel code.)  Please include your phone number in case we need additional information.

For other information or services available, please go to the St. Louis County web page at or call the office at 218.726.2677.
