St. Louis County seeks volunteers to serve on CDBG advisory committee

Do you have a particular interest in how Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds are distributed in St. Louis County? If so, there is an opportunity to serve on the County’s CDBG Citizen Advisory Committee.

The 19-member committee is responsible for reviewing applications for CDBG funds for physical improvement, economic development, housing, and public service activities in St. Louis County. The committee also holds public hearings (in January each year), interviews applicants and makes recommendations to the County Board of Commissioners.

St. Louis County receives CDBG funds each year from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to distribute to cities, townships and nonprofit organizations. The County relies on the Citizen Advisory Committee for funding recommendations.

The committee is made up of citizen representatives throughout the county. Some are appointed to represent particular geographic areas. Other serve at-large. Each position is a three-year term that can be renewed once. Currently, there are six openings: two at-large positions, plus representatives for the St. Louis County Association of Townships, Ely, Hermantown and Rice Lake Township.
