St. Louis County to Extend Acceptance of Flood-Related Debris from Residents and Businesses of the County Solid Waste Management Area At No Charge
The St. Louis County Environmental Services Department announced it will continue to accept flood-related debris from residents and businesses of the County Solid Waste Management Area at no charge through Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the following locations:
· Aurora Transfer Station, 5910 Hwy 135 N., Aurora
· Brookston Transfer Station, 8609 Hwy 2, Brookston
· Hibbing Transfer Station, 3994 Landfill Rd., Hibbing
· Cotton Canister Site, 8476 Hwy 53, Cotton
· Makinen Canister Site, 6327 Long Lake Rd., Makinen
· Meadowlands Canister Site, 7722 Pine Rd, Meadowlands
· Lavell Canister Site, 3175 Hwy 25, Hibbing
The Brookston Transfer Station will also be open on Wednesday, July 4th and July 11th and Friday, July 6th and July 13th. For more information on days and hours of operation call the St. Louis County Environmental Services Department office at 800-450-9278.
If you will be hauling flood-related debris please note that you should separate household garbage from demolition debris.
Homeowners may also bring paints, stains and other wastes that are hazardous to health and the environment. If the containers have been compromised due to moisture please place in a sealable transparent plastic bag. Secure all hazardous wastes while transporting and keep separate from other debris.
Property owners in Duluth, Hermantown and Proctor, and in townships including Grand Lake and Solway and east to Lake Superior are instructed to use the facilities provided by the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) and to call 722-3336 for their most current information. Businesses with hazardous wastes are instructed to call 218-750-0283 for disposal instructions.
Owners of petroleum or other tanks that have sustained flood damage or infiltration should call the State of Minnesota Duty Officer 1-800-422-0798.
