FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COUNTY OFFICIALS NEED TO COLLECT INFORMATION REGARDING THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE RECENT FLOODING DISASTER

If structures on your property have been damaged or destroyed as a result of the recent flooding disaster, you may be eligible to receive some property tax relief on this year's property taxes as well as property taxes payable next year.  The type of tax relief you could receive will depend on whether your property is homesteaded, whether it is located within a declared disaster or emergency area, the amount of damage sustained, and a variety of other factors.

Please notify St. Louis County of damage to your property by using the form on the county's website, by calling the County Assessor's office at (218) 726-2304, or by visiting a County Assessor's office in the Duluth Courthouse, the Virginia Northland Office Center, or the Ely Services Center.

St. Louis County Assessor's Office staff will inspect damaged homes and structures to establish the extent of the damage and to gather information needed to administer any property tax relief.  In order to make certain that all damage is noted, property owners are asked to keep records and photographs of the extent of the damage, before any reconstruction or repairs are started.

Information gathered by this process will also be used by St. Louis County to leverage federal, state, and local resources to aid in the recovery from the flooding.
